Orlando, FL- Representatives from mainline church denominations, evangelicals and experts in the field of faith and sexuality will unite for a weeklong conference addressing the topic of homosexuality on the campus of Wheaton College beginning the night of July 14. The Freedom Conference, now in its 34th year, will be hosted by Exodus International, the world’s largest Christian ministry to those dealing with same-sex attraction.
Nationally recognized speakers include former San Diego Charger and pastor Miles McPherson, author and Anglican priest Rev. Mario Bergner and Dr. Paul Meier, co-founder of the Meier clinics who was honored by President George W. Bush and Congress as Physician of the Year in 2007. Chicago-based author Dr. Nancy Heche will also share her story as the mother of a Hollywood celebrity and wife to a pastor living as a gay man with AIDS. The event features more than 50 workshops on a variety of issues related to biblical sexuality as well as a youth conference and a one-day seminar for couples dealing with a spouse’s unwanted same-sex attraction.
Alan Chambers, President of Exodus International and author of the newly released book Leaving Homosexuality says this event is part of a larger effort to equip the Christian church to effectively address the issue. “It’s no secret that homosexuality is one of the most challenging issues facing the global Christian church today, but it’s also one of the greatest opportunities we have to share the compassionate truth of Jesus Christ. We are committed to advancing a new movement defined by God’s truth as well as His heart for hurting individuals in our world today.”
