Conference to Address Ways to Reach
Those Struggling with Homosexuality
September 9, 2010
Orlando, FL- Exodus International, the largest international ministry addressing faith and same-sex attraction, will discuss how the church can more effectively reach a group of people that are often ignored or go unnoticed when it brings the Love Won Out conference to Rockford First Church in Rockford, IL on September 25. Jeff Buchanan, Senior Director of Church Equipping for Exodus says, “This event is needed to encourage and equip Christians throughout the area to minister to the many within their churches who are touched by the issue of homosexuality.”
The Love Won Out conference, originally launched by Focus on the Family in 1998, is dedicated to helping the Christian church address biblical sexuality, particularly same-sex attraction, with truth and grace. Many who attend the conference are: men, women and youth who personally struggle with unwanted homosexual feelings, family members and friends committed to demonstrating Christ-like compassion to a gay-identified loved one, and pastors and church staff wanting to learn more about this subject.
Since being acquired by Exodus International, the event now offers a session specifically geared to pastors and church staff to enable them to compassionately care for individuals dealing with these issues in their churches. Often these hurting men and women are unable to share their heartache within many churches for fear of rejection. Love Won Out wants to change that.
Noted speakers at the event include former homosexual and Exodus International President Alan Chambers, California-based author and counselor Joe Dallas, Exodus’ Senior Director of Church Equipping Jeff Buchanan and Anne Paulk, author of Restoring Sexual Identity: Hope for Women Struggling with Same-Sex Attraction.
Exodus International President Alan Chambers added, “Our goal is to help the global Christian church to be the healing community God intended it to be. We hope Love Won Out will help advance a new era for the church that is defined by God’s truth as well as His heart for hurting people.”
