Christ Chose Peace for Us

A great post by Dr. Kathy Koch for the new year.

Christ’s roles and names have been on my mind this month.

Isaiah 9:6 is a rich Bible verse, full of great Truth. Isaiah prophesied 700 years before Christ was born that He would be called “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Peace. It eludes so many people.

My mom was an amazing woman. I am proud to be her daughter. In the last 7 years of her life, before she passed away 2½ years ago, she had two different cancers occur several times and many surgeries, including triple bypass. Her faith grew and she glorified God as she struggled.

Before a surgery for thyroid cancer, I sent her an email that began, “Know that I’m praying peace for you. Peace may occur if you choose to focus on the things that are going well.” I then listed 12 of those things.

Just like with my mom, each of us can choose peace this month. We can choose it every month by choosing it every day. Or, maybe it’s a choice that needs to be made minute-by-minute because of life’s circumstances.

Ideally, for those of us who personally know the Prince of Peace, we shouldn’t have to choose peace. He chose it for us. We shouldn’t have to rely on a list of circumstances. Jesus is peace. He is our Savior. We have Him. We have peace. Do we choose to rest there? What’s the evidence?

“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests.” - Luke 2:14
