About Us

What is Exodus?

Exodus is the leading global outreach to churches, individuals and families offering a biblical message about same-sex attraction.

With over 35 years of ministry experience, Exodus is committed to encouraging, educating and equipping the Body of Christ to address the issue of homosexuality, gay and lesbian people and families with grace and truth.

Since 1976, Exodus has grown to include over 260 local ministries, churches and counselors in the USA and Canada. We are also linked with other Exodus world regions outside of North America through the Exodus Global Alliance.

Exodus is both a coalition of pastoral care ministries, churches and counselors as well as a full service organization.  Together, we provide everything from large scale national and international events to individual care for men, women and families.

What Does Exodus Believe about Same-Sex Attractions?

We believe that same-sex attractions are multi-causal meaning that there are multiple factors that lend to the development of this struggle. Many researchers, Christian and secular alike, have tried to boil the issue down to simple choice or genetics. We believe that both fail to convey the complexity of this issue and only serve to invalidate the people who are same-sex attracted.

While we have never met anyone who “chose” to feel same-sex attracted, people do have to eventually make a decision to either act on those feelings or not to act on them.  Since 1976, Exodus has served as an organization helping men and women surrender their sexual struggles to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.  We do not believe that same-sex attractions are sinful in and of themselves but rather one type of struggle and temptation among the millions that impact each and every human being.

We do believe that any sexual expression outside of a monogamous marriage between one man and one woman falls outside of God’s creative intent for human sexual expression and is sinful.  Homosexuality is no greater or less a sin than any other and is not the determining factor for a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Encouraging through Local Support

Providing Help: Exodus provides support through more than 260 Member Ministries, Professional Counselors, and Associated Churches. Each listing is an independent organization which has met Exodus’ criteria for membership. Most of our members are “lay” (non-professional) ministries, while some are professional counseling centers and some are churches’ ministries. Each provides unique services and resources. Our member ministries provide support for individuals who struggle with unwanted same-sex attractions, as well as provide support for their family (parents, spouses, children, relatives) and friends. These local affiliates are committed to ministering with Biblical truth and compassion. Find a directory on the Exodus website or call toll-free at 888.264.0877.

Conferences & Events: Since 1976, Exodus has witnessed thousands of lives transformed, marriages restored, and families strengthened through a life-changing event called the International Freedom Conference. This annual four-day conference offers practical teaching, authentic worship and powerful testimonies. In addition to the large general sessions and informative workshops, this conference offers unique opportunities to receive personal ministry and fellowship.

Educating in Grace and Truth

Exodus Books: Our online bookstore carries the most exhaustive selection of books, DVDs, CDs and other resources on homosexuality from a Christian perspective.

Exodus Students: This department helps young people who are questioning their sexual identity find healing and freedom through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Exodus Students provides an array of training and resources for families and student workers.

Monthly Newsletter: In order to keep you informed of the national and worldwide ministry to the homosexual, we offer a free monthly newsletter, Exodus Update. Each issue includes a testimony of healing, current events in the national “post-gay” movement, new book and video reviews, prayer requests for the month, and news of upcoming local, regional and national events. If you would like to receive the Exodus Update for free, please use the Request Info form to register. You will be placed on our confidential mailing list (we do not loan or sell our mailing list to any organizations or individuals for any purposes whatsoever).

Speaking, Media, and The Press: When sharing our personal stories in the media, we have countless opportunities to publicly proclaim the gospel and to share a redemptive perspective on this controversial topic. Representatives from Exodus are frequently interviewed by major media outlets and speak at a wide variety of venues. Many Exodus leaders are available for media interviews and speaking engagements at church events.

Equipping the Church

Love Won Out: A one-day conference, held in various cities throughout the year, to exhort and equip the Church to respond in a Christ-like way to people with same-sex attractions and those that love them. An experienced team of speakers offer practical and compassionate help in reaching those impacted by homosexuality within and outside the Body of Christ.

Annual Exodus Freedom Conference: Each year, around 1,000 men, women, youth, pastors, counselors, spouses, parents and other interested persons come together for a unique gathering of instruction and celebration. Besides powerful worship and inspirational messages, dozens of workshops are presented on counseling, relationships, sexual struggles, societal issues, support for family and friends, ministry development, and various other topics. This four-day event is held annually in the summer, in different cities throughout North America. See the Freedom Conference website for full information on the next annual conference.

Exodus Equipping Events: Local churches frequently invite Exodus to host area-wide Equipping Events. Topics include the personal stories of men and women, Practical Steps in Discipleship, and How the Church Can Respond Now. Click the link above for more information about hosting, attending, or registering for an equipping event in your area.

Mobilizing the Body of Christ

The local church is essential to the mission of Exodus.

The Exodus Church Association is a referral network of caring communities with a common cause. These churches share a redemptive biblical worldview and are committed to being inviting places of worship for those affected by homosexuality. We would love for your church to join us!
