I hope at least this controversy is drawing more people to the Exodus website and its resources. It would be easier to tolerate the Change.org petition were it not based on the usual outright lies that Exodus claims to "cure" gays and urges parents to put their gay kids through reorientation therapy. I just received one of their e-mails.

Hello, womanistmusings. You say that Exodus is questioning God's creations. You're redefining what God's creation is. Where did you learn that homosexuality is something God created?

The book that God the Creator uses to reveal Himself says that God calls homosexuality sin. You know the verses. Exodus Ministry didn't decide it was a sin. God says it is.

But God also gives the Good News of repentance and forgiveness of sin- of all sin (Luke 24:47). He says that He washes, justifies, and sanctifies us (1 Corinthians 6:9-11). He also says He conforms us to His image (Romans 8:29). He gives us a new nature (Galatians 2:20, 2 Corinthians 5:17). He matures us out of our sinful lifestyles (Ephesians 4:11-16, Romans 12:1-2).

I know what I write makes you angry. But in reminding you that something is sin, I MUST give you the Good News of the Gospel of forgiveness of sin in Jesus name (Romans 3:21-26). I must tell you that God can't bless and affirm something He calls sin just because that something makes sense or sounds good to us. But He WILL save us from it.

Many times we 'fundi's' are condemned for trying to convert people. But by you coming here and commenting and throwing verses (out of context, mind you), aren't you doing the same thing? Nonetheless, my plea is genuine. The Gospel is for you.

Hi, Bob. I hope I'm not meddling. Not trying to be funny or disrespectful. I looked up what the Word has to say about meddling, and Proverbs 26:17 says this,"Whoever meddles in a quarrel not his own is like one who takes a passing dog by the ears." So, I don't want to stick my nose in between what you and Exodus have to say, but I feel like I'm a part of Exodus. And this is a public forum.

I read Matthew 7:1-5 in order to understand Matthew 7:3 in context. Actually, since the Bible is about one thing- one Person, that is, Jesus (John 5:40)- to TRULY understand Matthew 7:3, one would have to read the whole of Scripture. In the WHOLE of Scripture, we read plainly that we are to discern sin in others and in ourselves; that's part of ministering to others. Jesus spent much of His ministry judging the pharisees for their self-righteousness. The command Jesus gives in Matthew 7:1-5 says we are not to judge in a self-righteous, hypocritical manner. It says to make sure you've taken the log out of your own eye- and then to see the speck in your brother's. So DO discern sin in him- but make sure you know that you're just in as much need of repentance and in just as much need of grace as he is.

This is the humility I've seen from those I know who are a part of Exodus and their affiliated ministries. They are quick to point out their own sinfulness and brokeness before calling others out of theirs. Then, in love, they DO call others out of their sinfulness.

It's not meddling- it's part of the Great Commission- "...'These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.' Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, and said to them, 'Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.'" (Luke 24:44-47)

Notice, Jesus says repentance AND forgiveness of sins? See, it doesn't just stop with "You're a sinner- repent!" Nor does it go in like "You're a sinner- repent and never sin again!" No- it's repent AND BE FORGIVEN. It's Good News, Bob. It's not just that 'this sinner' and 'that sinner' shall not see the Kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). It's ALSO "AND SUCH WERE SOME OF YOU. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." (1 Corinthians 6:11, emphasis mine)

Exodus is preaching the Good News of reconciliation to the Father through Jesus. They are doing what Christians have done for thousands of years. Obeying the Great Commission by preaching repentance and forgiveness of sins, making disciples, and teaching those disciples to obey all that Christ has commanded (Matthew 28:16-20). True, unlike other ministries, they are not going into the nations and preaching to the unconverted. Instead, they are preaching to fellow Christians- or soon to be Christians, that is, those whom God has been calling to Himself. Cause they know the Gospel is for Christians, too.

Exodus ministry exists to come alongside the church. Not to tell unbelievers or non members what to do in their own bedrooms.

Bob - you are misinformed about Exodus' mission and the purpose of the app. MEDDLING? That would apply if Exodus and its member ministries pursued, captured, and forced people out of their bedrooms and into a life they didn't want. Exodus is the "pursue-ee". People come to Exodus looking for answers and help. Whatever your fear is, it is misdirected.
